چکیده

Late Liassic in the Western Tethys has been cradle of Middle and Jurassic diversity corals. This is what revised enhanced taxonomy corals from Pliensbachian Toarcian stages reveals. The current new taxonomic study describes 66 species distributed 41 genera 20 identified families. It includes four genera: Podosmilia n. gen., Tubulosmilia Prismastrea gen. Spongiocoenia gen.; species: Axosmilia amellagouensis sp., Apocladophyllia guigouensis Coryphyllia bicuneiformis capillaria Proleptophyllia calix magna subphaceloida Fungiaphyllia praecursor F. rotunda Margarosmilia dividenda Paravolzeia calabrensis Distichophyllia pauciseptata Retiophyllia zizensis Epismiliopsis paraeudesi Phacelostylophyllum mg. arbustulum horologium Stylophyllopsis bovista S. veracolumella regularis sp. organum So many appear surprising at first sight considering special attention paid this to correction overestimations that took place literature last century as a consequence typological approach. Many taxa previously considered extinct T-J boundary were still living during times, various are known only for Pliensbachian. In addition, small number namely Isastrea, Montlivaltia Thamnasteria have their occurrence stage. Despite low abundance Pliensbachian, these will significantly increase part Upper communities. Most collected coral assemblages come both reefs level-bottom found carbonate platform situation.

Mesozoic paleogeography and facies distribution in the Northern Mediterranean Tethys from Western Carpathians view

West Carpathian Mesozoic paleogeographic development indicates the effect of a left lateral shift of the Alpine- Carpathian microcontinent along the European shelf since the Early Jurassic. The evolution during Late Triassic/Early Jurassic was controlled by convergence along the border of the Meliata Ocean and by contemporaneous divergence along the Middle Atlantic/Penninic rift. During Mid-Cre...

Pliensbachian nannofossils from Kachchh: Implications on the earliest Jurassic transgressive event on the western Indian margin

The oldest rocks within the Kachchh Basin belong to the sediments of Kaladongar Formation exposed in Kuar Bet, Pachchham Island (western India). The Formation’s lowest unit, the Dingi Hill Member has yielded a moderately diversified calcareous nannofossil assemblage that includes the marker species of Lotharingius contractus and Triscutum sullivanii of late Early Aalenian age associated with re...

Growth of Western Australian corals in the anthropocene.

Anthropogenic increases of atmospheric carbon dioxide lead to warmer sea surface temperatures and altered ocean chemistry. Experimental evidence suggests that coral calcification decreases as aragonite saturation drops but increases as temperatures rise toward thresholds optimal for coral growth. In situ studies have documented alarming recent declines in calcification rates on several tropical...

Chronology of mercury enrichment factors in reef corals from western Venezuela.

Mining and deforestation in the early 20th century, the development of petrochemical industries during the 1950s, and the constant weathering of natural deposits of cinabrium (HgS) have made Golfo Triste, Venezuela, a region impacted by mercury (Hg). We studied the chronology of Hg in coral skeletons of Siderastrea siderea (1 colony, 1900-1996) and Montastraea faveolata (2 colonies, 1930-1999) ...
